I have a bug bite on my foot. Also, I am drinking a raspberry lime gin rickey at the moment, so please forgive any typos. It’s raspberry season.
When we moved into our house, the raspberry plant was already threatening to overgrow the stairs to our back porch. I’m now pruning them to wrap around the house and let me tell you, the harvest is magnificent.
Now to find ways to use up all these magnificent berries!
I have made raspberry cornmeal muffins, a raspberry salad, and raspberry lime gin rickeys. I will also be making raspberry lemon bars soon. I can’t say that these recipes were accessible to my great grandmas, but I CAN say that GG Loney totally would have updated her blog while drinking a gin rickey. My aunt told me that when she was little, she’d visit GG Loney and drink lemonade while GG had a cocktail. And why wouldn’t ya?
In other news, I have done some hand-washed laundry. Now, mostly I’ve just been using my laundry line for towels, because my fiance doesn’t like how hang-dried clothes feels. Actually, when he first used one of the towels I hang dried, he said, “Honey! I think we need to buy new towels. These ones feel … crusty…” And then I laughed until I cried and said, “No, those were just hang-dried!” He protested but I have not relented. As we all know, it is for The Project!
There’s been so much going on this week and even more is to come! Once the tomatoes come in (at the rate they’re growing, they intend to be two stories tall) we’re going to be in a scramble to get to Fiance’s grandparents’ place to can and the fishing trip is in two weeks!
